Modernized Sorting Line Opened at the "Treskavac" Landfill
The Ponikve Eko Otok Krk municipal company already has a special sorting plant for sustainable sorting of municipal waste, which is very important due to the specific characteristics of the island of Krk, especially in the summer months when waste volumes are significantly higher due to tourism. In order to improve and modernize the entire waste management system, the entire facility was reconstructed. In order to modernize and increase the efficiency of the waste management system, the work on the reconstruction of the sorting plant within the "Treskavac" landfill was successfully completed. The project aimed to improve the technological process of sorting municipal waste, with an emphasis on increasing capacity, automating the process, and improving working conditions. The work included the replacement and modernization of conveyor belts, the installation of advanced systems for mechanical-automated waste separation, and the introduction of solutions for increasing energy efficiency and digital process monitoring. The main objectives of the reconstruction include increasing the recycling rate, reducing the amount of waste that is permanently disposed of, and a higher level of environmental protection - all in accordance with applicable environmental standards and circular economy strategies. The improved system will enable more precise separation of raw materials such as plastic, metal, paper and glass, as well as better integration with all stages of waste management: from transport, through recycling, to energy recovery, and the capacity of the plant has been increased to 5 tons per hour. This step was also a prerequisite for further development and modernization planned at the robotics level.
